Storefront Beautification Grants
The City of Santa Cruz Economic Development Department provides funding to help local business and property owners spruce up their storefronts and improve the appearance of the city's retail districts.
FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES:
Minor Façade Improvement Program:
Provides reimbursement grant funding up to $1,500 to businesses to enhance and beautify their store fronts with minor additions or improvements of façade elements and/or commercial signage. The total project cost must not exceed $5,000. Larger projects may consider applying for the full Façade Improvement Grant. Learn more about the program guidelines.

Commercial Signage Program:
Provides up to $5,000 that must be matched 1-1 towards the addition or improvement of commercial signage only. Grants can be applied to signage projects involving design, purchase, permitting, and installation, painting of commercial façade where signage is painted on to the side(s) of a building, and awnings (if business name/logo are included). Security Camera Grant Program:
The Security Camera Program reimburses owners of commercial buildings and businesses up to 50% of the total costs of eligible improvements, with a maximum reimbursement of $1,500 for a single tenant in a commercial property. Previous projects implemented within one-year of the application may be considered for reimbursement. Learn more about the program guidelines.

Facade Improvement Program:
Provides up to $15,000 towards external façade improvement only. Awardees can receive a whole grant of $10,000, and up to $5,000 that must be matched 1-1. Grants can be applied to projects involving a combination of design, painting, lighting, awnings, anti-graffiti window coating, limited exterior structure, limited landscaping, permitting, and signage. These grants can allow business owners to attract customers to their business, build their brand identity, increase visibility, improve the pedestrian experience, remove barriers to accessibility, and become compliant with local codes.
